NYMEX WTI Crude Futures trades almost continuously from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon Chicago time. There is one daily maintenance break - sixty minutes at 16:00 local - during which positions stay on but no new orders match.
The market reacts to weekend news on Sunday at 17:00 CT, hours before any cash equity opens. For US-based futures, the Globex session is where most overnight risk is processed.
